Dec 2011: Introduction to Systems Design Strategy, Process Engineering and Performance Mgmt

As a practical application of systems design methology, cadets were tasked with designing a
training system for individual combat movement techniques

The unit was broken up into two development teams. Each going through systems design, build, test phases of a generic systems development methodology

Each development team created their own methods for laboratory testing of their methods and process flows

At the conclusion of laboratory testing, each team took thier training systems out to the Jerseycity Sea Cadets "Proving Grounds" for field testing.  Team 1 lead by Cadet Medel won the competition due to design flaws in the other development team's training materials. Team 2 will have to go back to earlier phases of their development cycle and redevelop their system

July 2011: Cadets Help Out with 2011 City of Water Festival

Metropolitan Waterfront Alliance

Dear Jersey City Sea Cadets,

Thank you for helping to make the 2011 City of Water Day Festival a fun and exciting day for the thousands of people throughout New York and New Jersey. More than 15,000 attended City of Water Day on Governors Island and at least 5,000 enjoyed City of Water Day festivities at Liberty State Park. Thousands more attended “City of Water Day In Your Neighborhood” events, hosted by our partners around the harbor including Bronx River Park, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Harlem River Park, Hudson River Park and Staten Island. Between the two main sites and seven “In Your Neighborhood” satellite locations, 25,000 people made their way to our harbor on July 16 - amazing!

Without the hard work and effort from hundreds of people just like you, the festival would not have been as successful as it was. We truly could not have done it without you. Our message of a healthy, accessible and vibrant waterfront reached hundreds of thousands more through great media leading up to and covering the event, with features in Time Out New York, the Star-Ledger, and the Jersey Journal, as well as radio and television coverage by WABC, MyFox New York and NY1; not to mention thousands of blog and social media postings. City of Water Day is getting the word about our waterfront out to the people of New York and New Jersey and beyond.

At Governors Island, numerous New York City and New York State elected officials sailed on Clipper City during the opening press event. Attendees and speakers included City Council members Margaret Chin and Diana Reyna, Congressman Gregory Meeks, State Senator Ruth Hassell-Thompson, Parks Commissioner Adrian Benepe, Col. John Boulé of the Army Corps of Engineers, and others.

This year’s festival enhanced the bi-state tradition; with a stronger presence in New Jersey at Liberty State Park and BillyBey Ferry Company/NY Waterway generously offering free ferry service to take attendees between Liberty State Park and Governors Island, the festival was a true harbor-wide celebration. The events at Liberty State Park featured free kayaking, paddle-boarding, sailing lessons, narrated boat tours, and a larger Waterfront Activity Fair! Joining us for a press conference in Liberty Sate Park was Mayor Jerramiah Healy of Jersey City; City of Jersey City Council members Kalimah Ahmad and Nidia Lopez, and New Jersey State Assembly members Thomas Giblin and Charles Mainor.

The 2011 City of Water Day Festival was a great success and another step forward as we work to build our movement for a better waterfront for our region. I want to thank you again for your participation in our 2011 City of Water Day. I hope you had an amazing day out on the waterfront and hope you can join us for City of Water Day 2012!

Sincerely,

Roland Lewis
